AIR SEAL YOUR ATTIC BEFORE ADDING ADDITIONAL INSULATION
When your home was built or during renovations, openings were cut into your ceilings and top plates for electrical boxes, can lights, plumbing & electrical pipes, bathroom fans and sometimes heating/cooling ducts. All of these openings allow air to flow from your living area up into your attic.
This means that you are wasting money on utilities by allowing heat to escape into your attic in the winter and air conditioning to escape into your attic in the summer. These are the air leaks that raise your energy bills and make your house less comfortable.
You can seal these openings with a process called air sealing.
All Comfort Insulation can locate and seal the gaps around these openings from inside your attic. This prevents the escape of heated or cooled air from your living area into your attic.
As per the Department of Energy, “Sealing and Insulating your home is one of the most cost-effective ways to make a home more comfortable and energy efficient”.
Of course, it is best to have this done before adding any additional insulation in your attic, since these openings are located under your existing insulation. This process is completed and then additional insulation is blown in over the entire attic, leaving a continuous layer of insulation to reduce your energy costs while adding to the comfort of your home.
